Latex Mattress or Visco Mattress?

Latex Mattress or Visco Mattress?

Latex is produced by transforming natural rubber sap extracted from rubber trees into foam. It can be entirely natural or fully synthetic, though 100% natural latex is preferred for high-quality mattresses. Both latex and visco mattresses have technical features in which they excel over the other.

Even if standard latex is not completely natural, its natural content gives it a major advantage over visco foam, which is fully synthetic. The main disadvantage of latex is its higher cost. Both latex and visco foam provide pressure relief, meaning they reduce the pressure applied by the mattress to the human body. This is the primary reason both materials are preferred for mattresses. However, high-quality visco foam may provide “slightly better” pressure relief than standard latex.

Visco foam also excels in motion transfer reduction, meaning that partners sleeping on a visco mattress are less disturbed by each other’s movements compared to those sleeping on a latex mattress. The quality of both the visco and latex materials plays a key role in this performance.

Both materials help prevent back and spine pain. However, high-quality visco foam with strong pressure-relieving properties can be a slightly better option for reducing discomfort during sleep.

If the mattress will be used in very warm regions or if you have excessive sweating issues, choosing latex is the better option, as its air channels provide superior airflow and breathability.
